After HEIMAT (1982) and LEAVING HOME (1992) the conclusion of Edgar Reitz' epic film - trilogy. The six films tell about the period after he wall came down until New Year 2000. The night of Nov. 9th 1989: After many years Herman Simon (Henry Arnold) meets Clarissa again, his great love from college days. They decide to stay together and choose to live in a house in the Rhine valley, close to the Hunsrück and Schabbach, the village where Hermann was born. Thus he finds his way back to his roots.

Edgar Reitz's epic film (13 episodes) was shot from January 1988 until November 1991 and first shown at Venice Film Festival in 1992. The "chronical of a generation" is situated in the 1960 in Munich, center of the story is Hermann Simon (Arnold) who is leaving his home village at the age of 20 to study music and become a composer. A bunch of young avant-garde artists gathers around him, the eternal love a ffair with Clarissa remains unfulfilled, the short marriage with Schnüsschen fails. Ten years later the dreams are blown and youth is over.
